Fall Basketball League 2008

Division I - 6th, 7th & 8th Grades Champions

Division II - 12th Grade to 25 Years Olds Champions

Stanford 30      Maryland 24

This game was one of those as good as advertised games with both teams getting the better of the other in the regular season and only a point separating the two at halftime the game came down to execution which Maryland just could not do. Stanford was victorious winning the Junior Division I Championship behind the scoring of Brendale Beard out scoring the whole Maryland team in the first half and ending with a total 13 points (11 points all in the first half at half time the score was Stanford 11 Maryland 10), Dontrell Thomas and Kwa McDonald both with 6 points. Maryland was led in scoring by Issac Apea 19 points.

  N.E.O.A.B.D 64            MDL 59

Once again the undefeated N.E.O.A.B.D imposed their will trailing in the first half by 7 points to overcome the bad play late in the second half as the MDL folded under the pressure missing shots and unforced turnovers.   N.E.O.A.B.D went on the win the Adult League Division II Championship by 5 points led in scoring by Curtis Crews with 28 points and Larry Brown 17 points. MDL was led in scoring by Moe Martin 19 points, Joe Davis 17 points, and Ray Whiten Jr. 6 points.

Saturday, September 6th Game Results
Notre Dame 27          Stanford 15

The Fighting Irish jumped off to a fast start never looking back beating Stanford 27 to 15. Stanford played the Irish even in the 2nd half but never could recover from the slow start.

The Irish was led in scoring by Michael Lango with a game high 10 points.  Dontrell Thomas led Stanford with a team high 8 points.

NEOABD  63          Celtics 57

NEOABD took a 7 point lead into half time and held on to beat the Celtics 63 to 57.  NEOABD was led in scoring by Curtis Crews with a game high 25 points followed by Ryan Carter with 13 points, and Donald Randolph with 10 points.  The Celtics were led in scoring by Joe Atmonvage with a team high 15 points. Followed by DJ Whiten and Blake Shepard with 12 points a piece. Jerry LeBlanc chipped in 10 points for the Celtics.
Maryland 42          Virginia 17

Maryland  took a 9 point half time lead and went on to out score Virginia in the 2nd half 18 to 4 on their way to a 42 to 17 victory over Virginia.  Maryland was led in scoring by Isaac Apea with a team high 10 points.  Seth Myers led the Cavilers with a team high 10 points.

Saturday, September 13th Game Results
Virginia 22      Stanford  16

Stanford started out strong in the first half despite having to play with 5 players due to several players absence.  However, with an early departure in the first half by their big man - Daniel Rios - due to an ankle swist, Stanford continued the game with only four players.  As the final score reflects, Stanford held off the Virginia attack as long as possible while still putting up an offense to keep them in the game.  However, Virginia made the best of an unfortunate situation for Stanford and rallied to pull away to a 6 point win.  Leading scorers for Virginia were Gage Bolest with 10 points, followed by Seth Myers with 7 points and Christopher Stumpfig with 7 points.  Leading scorer for Stanford was both Leon Thibault and Dontrell Thomas with 7 points each.

Fellza 61      Celtics   42

The Fellza continued their winning streak to improve their record to 2 wins and 0 losses.  Despite the loss of their talented and one of the leagues most aggressive points guards Kemo Bryant due to a knee injury.  Kemo left the game early in the first half as he drove to the hoop on a break away lay up and on elevation to the hoop the knee gave away.  However, the fellza have two more Bryant brothers and a strong forward in Blake Sheppard whom filled the gap to help lead the Fellza to a 19 point win.  However, not to be out done, Morgan Winn for the Celtics - their 6 foot 6 inch (plus or minus an inch) senior center from Middletown put up a battle along with Bradley and Darrell to keep the game respectable well into the second half.  Leading scorers for the Fellza were Blake Sheppard with 20 points, Kemo Bryant with 14 and Demetris Bryant with 13 points.  Leading scorers for the Celtics were Morgan Winn with 13 points followed by Bradley and Darrell with 10 points each.

Maryland 28   Notre Dame 27

This game came down to the last 10 seconds when a made foul shot by Isaac Apea put Maryland within 1 point.  It was a back and forth game with Notre Dame taking the lead several times during the contest.  At one point, Notre Dame lead by 6 points with less than 3 minutes remaining in the game.  Notre Dame did a great job protecting the lead and the ball, however the Maryland team turned up the heat with a full court press and tough defense.  On the second foul shot following Isaac's first shot to bring the game within 1 point, Aaron Sharer slipped in to grab the rebound and lay it back in for a one point Maryland lead.  Time out was called by the Notre Dame coach with 7 seconds remaining to set up the final play.  Notre Dame made a clean inbounds pass, with their player making it just across half court before meeting up with a Maryland defensive player and loss the ball.  Maryland wins by one point.  Leading scorer for Maryland was Isaac Apea with 13 points.  Followed by Scott Caravaggio with 4 points.  Leading scorer for Notre Dame was Mike Lango with 14 points followed by Patrick Davis with 8 points.   All the kids deserve credits for their contribution both starters and substitutes for a well played and toughly played contest.

N.E.O.A.B.D  75         MDL   60

N.E.O.A.B.D  (Not Even On A Bad Day) one of what appears, after two weeks of games, to be one of the strongest teams in the lead pulled away in the second half to take a 15 point win over MDL (MoCo Dark Lordz).  N.E.O.A.B.D had a good distribution of scorers with two players in double figures and two others just short of double figures.  N.E.O.A.B.D was led in scoring by their team leader, power forward / center Curtis Crews.  Each time MDL would pull close or threaten to take the lead, Curtis would either pull out one of his signature "dunks", an unexpected assist or a deep three pointer.  Leading scorers for N.E.O.A.B.D were Curtis Crews with 32 points, Ryan Carter with 17 points, Donald Randolph and Larry Brown with 6 points.  Leading scorers for MDL were Mo Martin with 24 points, Raymond Whiten and Wilson with 12 points each.

Saturday, September 20th Game Results
Maryland 38   Stanford  25

In a closely match contest, Stanford took a 14 to 8 (6 point) half time lead.  As Maryland put the pressure on in the second half, the score stayed close most of the second half until a strong presence from the Maryland bench by Emmanuel Apea, Alana Paul, Ryan Woodward, Jerome Love and Shiheed Roberts helped Maryland to pull away late in the second half.  Lead by Emmanuel Apea sharp shooting and the defense efforts of the others, Maryland went to pull away to a 13 point win.  Leading scorers for Maryland were the brothers Emmanuel and Isaac Apea both with 11 points each.  Followed by Taylor Sher with 6 points and Scott Caravaggio with 5 points.  Stanford came ready to play fielding more than 6 players for the first time this year.  With the addition of server players whom missed the first two games, Stanford was lead in scoring by Kwa McDonald with 9 points and Brendale Beard with 7 points.  Derek Smith, Josh Kehoe and Demonte Goines all added 2 points each to the effort.

N.E.O.A.B.D   71    Fellza   68

In the much awaited contest between the Senior Division II undefeated teams - N.E.O.A.B.D came out victorious and squeaked by with a 3 point win over the Fellza's.  N.E.O.A.B.D  showed up as usual with the "usual suspects" taking the lead with power offense and a strong defense.  While, the Fellza with their high powered "run and shoot" offense (even absent one of the lead leading guards - Kemo Bryant) came out hot on the offense but warm on the defense.  The Fellza's found themselves having to make up ground several times in the game.  However, a strong run in the second half picked up the Fellza's confident and caused panic in N.E.O.A.B.D team leaders and power forward / center Curtis Crews.  A situation we found to be "bad news" to opponents.  Curtis took on a support role with several assist to his awaiting point guards Larry Brown and Ryan Carter.  Both of which added to the win with a team high 28 points by Larry Brown and 9 points by Ryan Carter.  Curtis Crews took the high road by adding 20 points to the teams win.  Leading scorer for the Fellza's were Noah Shepard with 22 points, Demertis Bryant with 16 points and Frank Banks with 12 points.

Notre Dame 35     Virginia  23

In a well played game, Virginia kept this game close in the early part of the first half but due to a surge of offense by Michael Lango Jr. and some overall Notre Dame team defense, the Notre Dame team pulled away by half time.  However, as in previous games over the past several weeks, Virginia's Seth Myers rallied his teammate and put in his own offense attack to keep the game respectable.  However, Notre Dame's defense was too strong for Seth and the Virginia players to overcome.  Leading scorers for Notre Dame were Mike Lango Jr. with 15 points followed by Patrick Davis with 9 points.  Leading scorers from Virginia were Seth Myers with 13 points and Solomon Wilcox and Gage Bolesta with 4 points each.

MDL  77   Celtics   60

Although the Celtics loss this game by 17 points, it was a much closer game than the score reflects.  If you take away the six (6) three pointers from Mo Martin (totaling  18 points) we would have a 1 point game.  However, as usual Mo did the "Mo-Joe" on the Celtics by knocking down 3 pointer after 3 pointer - non stop, on both sides of the court.  Didn't matter which basket he selected.  But, the Celtics did not give up, they played a strong defense in the second half and a strong offense by DJ Whiten to cut the lead - at times - to 12 and 10 points.  However, as we said Mr. Martin (Mo as we know him) seems like he would add a 3 pointer for every 2 points the Celtics would add off a defensive turnover.  Above Mo's offense effort, leading scorer for MDL was Joe Davis (twice an many 2s as Mo's 3s) with 22 points followed by - of course - Mo Martin with 20 points.  Raymond Whiten Jr. added 8 points (two of which were 3 pointers) and Antwan Mayburn added 11 points.  Leading scorers for the Celtics were DJ Whiten with 20 points, Blake Shepard with 16 points and Jerry LeBlanc with 11 points.

Saturday, October 4th Game Results
Stanford 30     Maryland 25

In the battle of what seem to be unstoppable Maryland vs. Stanford the team without a win this season, the unknown became possible. Maryland kept the score close the entire game leading at half time 11 to 10 with plans of pulling away in the second half.  However, this plan seem short on execution as Stanford's will to win grew stronger believing that maybe they could win.  Stanford's maybe we can attitude paid off in the end. Stanford go's on to win this one 30 to 25.  Stanford was led in scoring by Dontrell Thomas with 10 points and Kwa McDonald with 8 points. Maryland was led by Issac Apea, 11 points and three players scoring 4 points each Aaron Shafer, Raymond Woodyard, and Emmanual Apea

N.E.O.A.B.D    88          Moco Dark Lordz   77

Missing four players from the roster several absent due to SAT testing and two of the four being leading scores the MoCo Dark Lordz did not fold easy. Lead in scoring by Cj Evans 25 and Dwayne Whiten Jr 27 still was not enough for the undefeated and all powerful N.E.O.A.B.D team lead in scoring by Curtis Crews 23, Larry Brown 18, and Ryan Carter with 32 points this three-some has lead there team in every game and looks strong as the playoffs near.

Notre Dame 38      Virginia 18

While the second game of the evening was not quite as close in points the intensity and hard work would have made you think, the entire game, no team led by more then two points. Notre Dame proved to be to powerful in this match up as they took control of the game from the jump ball and never looked back. Led by the high scoring of Mike Lango with 14 points also contributing Patrick Davis and Justin Walker both with 6 points each. Virginia put up a good fight led by Seth Myers scoring 9 points and Ayush Goyal with 3 points.

Fellaz  75        Celtics 48

Fellaz lead once again by their scoring and emotional leader Demetris Bryant with 31 points and points can not compared to the leadership he shows on the court. Everytime the Celtics lead by Blake Sheperd and Albert Bastian both with 11 points made a push you could always count on Demetris for a strong drive or pull up three pointer to close stop the Celtics run.

Saturday, October 11th Game Results

Stanford 37              Virginia 26

Making a late push at the end of the season nears Stanford has made their presence known beating the first place team last week and continuing on with a two game win streak as they beat Virginia.  Virginia stayed close but could not get over the hump as they never took the lead in this game.  High scorer for Virginia was Seth Myers with 14 points. High scorer for Stanford was Dontrell Thomas with 11 points and Kwa McDonald with 10 points.

Fellaz 93     MoCo Dark Lordz 78

Lead in scoring by Cj Evans 33 points and Ozzie Burrius with 15 points. These two good friends sent the Dark Lordz leading at half by 3 points.  However, the extra help from teammates was not there in the second half.  The Fellaz took the lead with a second half run to close out the lead and the game.  Leading scorer for the Fellaz was Demetris Bryant with 32 points and Noah Sheppard with 25 points
Maryland 28          Notre Dame 26

In the Battle for first place between two teams who last contest, won by Maryland, was decided by 2 points.  Its hard to beat a team once even harder to beat a team twice as Maryland goes on to defeat Notre Dame for the second time this season both times by two points. Maryland was lead in scoring by the streak shooting of Ryan Woodyard 10 points all could have been three pointers, however a couple with his foot just on the three point line and a good game from Issac Apea with 8 points. Patrick Davis hit a shot with less than 10 seconds left in the game put Note Dame within 2 points.  Notre Dame was lead by some sharp and clutch shooting from Patrick Davis with a game high 12 points.

N.E.O.A.B.D  86       Celtics 76

The second time around for these two teams the young Celtics put up a good fight. Missing their three point leader Dj Whiten to a college visit, however only losing this game by a total 10 points.  This could be seen as a moral victory, heading into the playoffs the Celtics were lead by the hot three point shooting from Albert Bastain with 23 points and a good overall game from Blake Sheppard with 18 points. N.E.O.A.B.D high scorer was their top player Curtis Crews with 24 points and the reliable scoring from Larry Brown with 19 points

Saturday, October 18th Game Results

Stanford 41       Notre Dame 25

Stanford looking strong as the regular season comes to a close and entering the playoffs in the last three weeks has gone 3 and 0.  In that streak knocking off both the number 1 and 2 teams in the league in convincing fashion. Lead by Kwa Mcdonald 12 points and Brendale Beard 10 points.  Stanford took control beating Notre Dame to force a tie in the standings for second place. Notre Dame fought hard with the game being closer than the end results make it appear.  Notre Dame was lead in scoring by Mike Lango 13 points and John Bush with 7 points.

N.E.O.A.B.D   75          Fellaz   61

Even with their starting point guard Larry Brown out in this contest N.E.O.A.B.D still proved too strong extending their undefeated season into the playoffs where anything is possible. N.E.O.A.B.D was lead by Curtis Crews 27 points and Ryan Carter 22 points.  Fellaz fought hard with the return of Kemo Bryant from an knee injury early in the season in his debut back to the league Kemo had 14 points while Noah Sheppard lead the team in scoring with 18 points
Maryland 35                    Virginia 19

In this game Maryland proved once again too athletic and too strong for the opposing team Virginia as Maryland has looked good and been consistent all season long. Maryland was led by Issac Apea 15 points and Sean Caravaggio with 6 points. Virginia was lead by Seth Myers with 10 points

Celtics   58       MDL     55

This game was as good as the score suggest.  High Tempo, basket for basket, tough playing. In the end MDL had one last chance to tie the game with a half court shot by Noah Sheppard that just rimed out. MDL was lead in scoring by Raymond Whiten Jr with 15 points and Ozzie Burris 10 points. Celtics were lead in scoring by Dj Whiten with 27 points and Morgan Winn 13 points.
2008 Fall League Playoffs - Saturday, October 25th Championship Game Results
Game 1

Maryland 43 Virginia 17

Game 1 of championship week between 1st place Maryland and last placed Virginia proved the distance between the top and the bottom was a long one at best. Virginia only winning one game all season never gave up in any of their contest always playing hard from jump ball till the very last whistle of the game. Maryland only losing one game all season long looked strong beating Virginia by 26 points in doing so advancing to the championship game where they awaited the winner between Notre Dame (winning both times by 2 points) and Stanford (their single lost throughout the entire season). Virginia was lead in scoring by Seth Myers with 11 points while Maryland recorded a score from everyone on the roster lead by Issac Apea 12 points, Scott Caraveggio, Jerome Love both with 6 points and Alana Paul with 2 points.

Game 3

N.E.O.A.B.D        59 Celtics 55

N.E.O.A.B.D has played hard, tough, strong and to anyone that has seen them in action seemed simply unbeatable.  Keeping that image strong as they came back from down by 4 points at the half to make a late second half push to win by 4. The young Celtics team led by this years Frederick County High School Stars Dwayne Whiten Jr. (Frederick High School), Morgan Winn (Middletown High School), and Blake Sheppard (Thomas Johnson High School) had a rough season staying in each of their games but just not having quiet enough to overcome the experience of the older teams. Celtics lead in scoring by Dwayne Whiten Jr. and Josh Harrison with 14 points and Blake Sheppard with 17 points. N.E.O.A.B.D lead in scoring by Ryan Carter with 12 points and Larry Brown with 16 points.

Game 2

Stanford 22         Notre Dame 13

Game 2 of championship week between the 3-3 Stanford team and 3-3 Notre Dame both teams tied for 3rd and 4th place and both teams beating each other throughout the regular season would only suggest a tight and hard played second game of the day. However, with Notre Dames big man and one the overall best players John Bush going down early in the game due to an injury left Notre Dame short handed to face the tough Stanford team that leading into the playoffs went on an 3-0 winning streak and looking to make a strong push through the playoffs. Stanford went on to win the game lead in scoring by Kwa McDonald 10 points, Montez Goings 8 points, and Brendel Beard with 5 points proved to be too much for the short handed Notre Dame team lead by Mike Lango 12 points and Patrick Davis 1 point.

Game 4

MDL 83         Fellaz 65

MDL high powered offensive behind the sure shooting of Moe Martin with a total of 6 three pointers made in this contest and the high flying of Joe Davis with a monster dunk as the game came to a close made this contest more fun then a playoff competition game. The fellaz did all they could playing till the sound of the game clock behind Kemo Braynt with 18 points and Noah Sheppard with 21 points. MDL was lead in scoring by Moe Martin with 25 points and Joe Davis with 14 points.
