However,
there is another side to Dwayne and some interesting
history. Dwayne started playing basketball at an early
age. I know because I watched him grow up playing with a
rolled up sock shooting at a wire hanger modified as a basket rim,
hanging on the back of the bedroom door. Because the
standard size bedroom door is about 6 feet tall, that means Dwayne (
Wayne \ Wayne as we know him) was dunking at the age of eight years
old. Of course, you would have to add the disciplant he received
form leaving shoe prints on the side wall and door. His love for the game started at a very early age. Lighting quick, handles (dribbling skills) and a jump shot that was "Wet", "Nothing but Net" or as we said back in the day "Swish". During those days, week in and week out Dwayne had to "give the business" \ "serve up" \ "break ankles" - in other words play against - the likes of Rodney Smith, Derwin Hill, Terry Connolly, Derrick Bowens, Darrell Rollins , Ozzie Thompson, and Deon Boyce Dwayne continued his basketball at the High School level playing varisity Basketball for then powerhouse "Frederick High Cadets". As a true point guard and modified two guard, every county team and then Tri-State - Frederick County, Washington County, and West Virginia and teams - hated to play against Dwayne and his Frederick High teammates. Dwayne rained down so many junp shoots - from way down town (before the 3-point shoot) that he was given the name "Pearl" after the great Dwayne "Pearl" Washington (former player for the Sycaruse University Organemen).
Dwayne volenteered
his time as an assistant Coach of the Monocacy Middle JV- Basketball
Team 2002-2003 season were the team finished
2nd overall with a overall record of 18-4. In 2004, Dwayne took
over as Head Coach of the TJ Middle JV team were his team
finished 3rd overall with a record of 18-5. Dwayne also oversses
youth basketball activities at the Recreation Center for the City
of Frederick at South Frederick
Elementary and has been doing this for 8 years. As you can tell Dwayne
is very committed to the Youth of Frederick
County.
Dwayne is very
active in his Church having served as
Protem of the Steward Board for the past 4 years. Dwayne is married
and lives in Frederick with his wife Lynn and son
Dwayne Jr.
