Welcome to BCWB Summer Youth Basketball 2018!

Parents and Spectators

We are looking forward to a fun filled summer (and hopefully perfect weather) of BCWB basketball.  Our moto is…It’s about the kids…and let’s have fun!

In order to do that, it is important that we following and adhere to a few simple things.

Spectators Code of Conduct: As a spectator, we hope to provide a fun and rewarding experience for you and your child. In order to achieve our goal we ask that you adhere to the following criteria:

1.  Applaud good plays by your own team AND the opposing team.

2.  Never ridicule or scold a child for making a mistake during a game or practice.

3.  Encourage players to always play according to the rules.

4.  HAVE FUN! Make it enjoyable for you and your child.

As a parent you are not allowed to approach the coach and team’s bench inside the gate during a game. If you have a comment for the coach please wait until after the games is over to speak with the coach

Please cooperate with the BCWB Youth Basketball staff in creating and maintaining an environment in which each participant may have fun, learn the game and be a good sport. We encourage parents to focus on the children and not the referees.

For the safety of everyone, only the coach, assistant coach, players and BCWB staff members are allowed inside the gate during all games.  Children (non-players) and other spectators are not allowed to sit on the bench and should have accommodations outside the playing area (fence).

BCWB Summer League Youth Basketball Staff reserves the right and WILL send home anyone (this includes coaches, players, spectators) who are in violation of the rules and regulations set by the program for the health, safety, and welfare of all participants.

Parent involvement

As a parent or guardian of our basketball league we want you to know we appreciate your help and leadership. We suggest you get involved on your child’s team to make the experience more enjoyable for them. Whether it be snack, water, fruit, or high fives the kids DO appreciate you being there! ALL parents must be on site with their children as part of our policy. We love the opportunity for you to help out at the scores table with the score clock or the score book.  If interested in volunteering for your child’s game or any other game during the summer, please contact Lynn Whiten at lcwhiten@aol.com.

Teamwork a critical part of the game of basketball. This is a team sport, which means that all the players must be involved both on and off the court. That means that one player does not always dribble and shoot the ball. There are no Michael Jordan’s in this league, so every player should be involved in the game.  Players should pass the ball to each other, and every player should have a chance to shoot, dribble, and rebound the ball.

Players Jersey/T-Shirt – Each player MUST wear their assigned 2017 BCWB Youth Summer League Basketball jersey/t-shirts to all games.  Jerseys from other leagues (for example, Spring & Fall League or other Recreational leagues), cannot be worn.  Same color shirts as the team are not acceptable either.   The assigned jersey/t-shirts must be worn in order to play each game.  No exceptions.  This policy is not to penalize a child from playing but rather an effort to uphold the responsibility and accountability of the player and parent to ensure the child is prepared for the game.  In addition, it protects the integrity of the league by avoiding players from joining/playing on teams without being registered.   Replacement Jersey/T-Shirt may be purchased for $10.00.

Our Volunteer Coaches

Key Word – VOLUNTEER COACHES - All coaches are volunteering their time to make this a great experience. We try and select coaches who are knowledgeable in skills we are trying to teach.

Coaches agree to support and influence good sportsmanship, high moral standards and are responsible for the conduct of their players and spectators. This includes, but is not limited to, Unsportsmanlike disagreements with officials or insubordinate acts against supervisory staff.

The referees are in charge of officiating the game and their decisions are FINAL; right or wrong.

Coaches have been instructed that everyone on the team will play and everyone will play ample and adequate amount of time on the court.  Coaches use their discretion as to how to ensure the playing time. BCWB Staff will monitor playing time and speak directly to coaches who are not adhering to this policy.

The intent is to provide all participants equal playing time regardless of skill level or experience. It is the role of the coach to help ensure that every child plays and has a positive experience.

Weather Policy

We will never risk a child being hurt so it is very important to us that the courts are in the condition to prevent any injuries.  BCWB Youth Summer League Directors will make a determination if games will need to be cancelled due to rain or other weather conditions.  Please be sure that you are calling (301) 663-0892 for any updates to games being cancelled or rescheduled.  We will also try to update the website with updated information a www.bcwb.org

It is important that you coach has your updated contact information including your phone and email to keep you up to date on all events this summer.  If you are not sure you are receiving all correspondence from BCWB, feel free to send updated contact information to Lynn Whiten lcwhiten@aol.com
